When left stranded on a deserted island one has to cope with the situation
as best as he can. After slicing his hand and leaving a blood stained image
on the front of a Wilson volleyball, Tom Hank's character finds comfort in
adding eyes, nose and mouth to this ball. Over a long period of time he adds
"hair" to his friend who he has dubbed "Wilson".
This replica is faithful to the original prop in every detail. Starting with
an authentic Wilson volleyball, this replica is heavily aged and painted to
match the look of the original. The top portion of the ball is torn open and
restuffed. Then countless twigs are slid into the opening and bound together
to form Wilson's hair. The painted face and aging are finally protected with
a coat of matte polyacrylic.
Because of the restuffing of the ball, this replica is heavier than a normal
volleyball and rests firmly without rolling about.
